Meet the Founder

Bruce Townhill, Dual Certified Master Khru, is the Managing Director and the creative force behind all the equipment at Punch Equipment®. Motivated by a passion for boxing and a commitment to quality, Bruce has overseen the development and design of gear that caters to fighters at all levels. His dedication has positioned Punch Equipment® as a trusted name in the industry, renowned for offering reliable and top-notch boxing gear.

Timeline

1989

This year, in the heart of Coogee Beach, Khru Bruce Townhill established a full-time extremely hardcore Muay Thai & Boxing Gym. Within the gym was a Pro Shop. Memberships swelled to 100 plus, with guys and girls from all over the area flocking to train.

1991

The gym was named ‘Blackbelt Pro’ due to Khru Bruce Townhill making the decision to professionally train the many established black belts in the Art of Muay Thai due to their lack of defense abilities.

1992

With memberships overflowing, the gym required more space and moved to a 5000sq ft location in Randwick, Sydney, Australia; making it the largest full-time Muay Thai Gym in the Southern Hemisphere

1993

The Pro Shop attached to the Gym became a discount retail force in Sydney named the ‘Punch Factory Outlet’ after the Punch brand name ‘AAA Grade Punch Equipment’®. The business grew and thus became a major seller above the other fight brands carried out in retail stores.

1994

The First Australian owned professional pad course was devised and certified. Membership for Punchfit® boxing, kickboxing and muay thai quickly grew. With classes operating each week, there was constant research conducted thus a development strategy for improving the equipment was applied.

1995

Bruce Townhill (chief instructor) was awarded a Khru Certificate by the authentic Muay Thai Association Bangkok. In this year also, the famous slogan was born.

“Tested on Humans was invented and incorporated into the Gym and Equipment due to the large fighter base testing the Punch gear on a daily basis.

1996

Membership base grew to unprecedented numbers due to The Blackbelt Pro Licence system and professional padwork techniques allowing many instructors to present a quality controlled, safe and effective training system for men women and children.

1998

Major re-fit of gym as Blackbelt Pro P/L becomes the official test centre for Punch Equipment® which is now exporting the AAA Punch product around the world.

2000

With 35 belted champions from approx 200 ring fighters Blackbelt Pro Gym produces its first undefeated Super heavy weight World Champion.

2001

Punchtex® superior durability material is brand named after being tested for several years and found to be the most durable material ever used.

2003

International and local movie celebrities begin to call the now famous Blackbelt Pro Gym ”home” along with hundreds of locals and travellers from around the world.

2005

Khru Bruce Townhill is awarded a Master Khru (AjARN) certificate from the World Muay Thai Council Thailand.

2006

World First-Blackbelt Pro Pty Ltd finalises 10 years of testing the Punchtex™material with Punch Equipment® announcing in it's 2006 International catalogue the world’s first Ltd lifetime time warranty on boxing equipment.

Released Punchfit® DVD – Now a best seller within the Fitness Industry! Punchfit® DVD Vol 1 - Punchfit® Pad Training 150 levels in Boxing, Kickboxing and Muay Thai class formats released.

2009

Blackbelt Pro® Gym and Punch Equipment® celebrate 20 years of being Australian owned and operated!

2013

Punch® Equipment moves it's Head Office to Burleigh Heads, Queensland. Where it has become a click and collect warehouse for locals around the area

Punch® Equipment launches Social Media integration successfully creating accounts in Facebook and Instagram.

2014

Punch® Equipment successfully updates the website to include an online payment section to reduce phone orders. Thus improving the customer ordering experience.

2016

PUNCHTV® launched on-line for continuing education and training support videos being launched.

2017

The integration of the Online Order Form for Retail Shops is created. Thus providing them a quick and easy bulk ordering solution.

2018

The Punchfit® Pad Holding Online Course launches for people who can't attend a face to face course or need to re-skill themselves in the art of teaching Boxing.
